A white fluffy seal pup braces himself against the biting winter surrounded by snow in the perfect Arctic setting - but really it's Britain. And despite the big freeze gripping Britain it was business as usual for the animals who are well equipped to deal with extreme conditions. Captured earlier this month as winter snow storms battered the country, the stunning images show the adorable grey seals - part of Europe's largest colony - in a flurry of servere weather. The youngsters caught on camera at the icy landscape are new arrivals born at the Donna Nook Seal Sanctuary near Louth, Lincs. Many were born in late November or early December. When born the grey seal pups' first coat of fur does not protect against the cold Atlantic water. They wait on land until an oily waterproof coat grows several weeks later before taking to the waves. Fortunately the coats keep them warm even in this year's harsh British winter - along with their pup fat which they get through their mother's milk.
