Few men would go within 50 feet of a wild polar bear let alone nose to nose in the freezing water of the Arctic. But that is what French dentist and conservationist Joe Bunni did not once but twice to get the perfect photograph he needed despite promising his wife he wouldn't. Wearing only a dry-suit, snorkel and mask, Joe submerged himself into the two degree (celsius) waters of Canada's Repulse Bay and came within 50 cm of two 700 pound deadly polar bears. On both occasions the bears came so close to Joe, 57, that they touched his waterproof camera housing with their noses and during the last encounter Joe barely managed to escape with his life as the bear turned ugly.
