Known for their agility in the water, this sea lion took it one step further, by surfing a huge a wave. Taken on 22nd and 23rd August of this year, the incredible moment was seen just off the northern tip of Vancouver Island, Canada and made a real SPLASH with spectators. After waiting for a huge swell, the playful mammal rushed to catch the curling water, riding it for 50 to 100 metres before disappearing beneath the foam. Part of a troupe of 20, small groups of sea lions took it in turns to carve the ocean, impressing onlookers with their surfing skills. Full time photographer and trained behavioural ecologist, Brad Hill, managed to capture the rare moment on camera and had never seen behaviour like it before.
